Biography

Brisbane used to be a sleepy little joke of a city. The kind of place you had to make your own fun. Making your own fun for heaps of young people was forming bands with their friends, which turned Brisbane into one of the most exciting musical cities not just in Australia, but the world. A new generation of bands has emerged from Brisbane who quite literally show up and outshine the rest of the Australian music scene with their originality and exuberant live shows. This new crop of artists are creating excitement all over Australia and leaving all in their wake. They are the bands that are gaining fans all over the world and will no doubt be the next big Australian exports. One band from this fraternity who are surely due to steal the spotlight over the next 12 months is indie rock punks, Rocketsmiths.

*Rocketsmiths* are gaining a reputation as one of the most exciting acts in the Australian music scene at the moment and with the release of Doctor, an ode to a wasted life and the first single off their debut album people are sure to be hearing a lot more about this Brisbane outfit very soon. Playing a unique style of music that has been described as everything from “Carnie Rock” to “Vaudevillian Indie Rock”, Rocketsmiths are smashing audiences all over the country with their incredible live shows. Now, after releasing two critically acclaimed EPs, attaining widespread radio play and gaining a legion of fans across Australia, Rocketsmiths are gearing up to release their highly anticipated debut album, recorded once again with super Brisbane producer, Magoo, and due out mid 2010.

The new recordings again hail a new direction for Rocketsmiths, leaving behind their countryish/rockabilly roots and delving more into indie rock, punk and party jams. It’s heavier, louder and just a little bit odd with the new songs by far some of the best the band has written. They’re different and deviate from what the band is known for while still keeping the energy, fun and individuality of their past releases.

Rocketsmiths are careening ahead in the Australian music scene and have supported and toured with some of the best Australian and international bands around including We Are Scientists (USA), Presidents of The United States of America (USA), Juliette And The Licks (USA), The Cruel Sea, The Panics, Yves Klein Blue, British India, Bluejuice, Operator Please, The John Steel Singers, The Gin Club, Little Red, The Boat People and The Paper Scissors as well as being booked for Sunset Sounds, The Valley Fiesta and Festival Of The Sun.

With word spreading throughout the music industry and a large following of dedicated fans, anticipation is high for Rocketsmiths’ debut album due out this year. This energetic, exciting and extremely unique band are commanding attention with their engaging live show, breathtaking brand new songs and fresh sound.

“Tidy rock’n’roll with tempo, talent and energy. Reminiscent of Rocket Science.”
(Vijay Khurana – Triple J)

“Many of their songs sounded like some soundtrack to a B-grade vampire movie set in the south of the USA. That's a good thing.”
(Cam Smith - Before Hollywood)

“This is an EP of excellently eclectic arrangements - from Hammond organ (Man With A Gun) to harpsichord (The Boy Who Cried Misery) - that lift their rock tunes into a different stratosphere from every other four-chord ensemble. ”
(Clem Bastow - Beat)

“A Brisbane band with a big reputation, Rocketsmiths play rabble-rousing country punk at a break-neck speed. They careen through songs with a joyful kind of chaos, invoking outlaw twang through lo-fi garage rock with impulsive little spasms littering their madcap landscape. Think Dropkick Murphys by way of B52s and the Living End. Good times, rock and roll, etc.”
(Simone Ubaldi - Beat)

“Fun, distorted vocals and pure pop… This is a tops song and one you want to sing along to.”
(Zan Rowe - Triple J)
